GLAMOUR OF THE GODS: HOLLYWOOD PORTRAITS

Saturday, 8 October 2011

I went to see the
'Golden Age of Hollywood'  1920-1960
the celebration of Hollywood portraiture...
how I would adore the portrait of Rita Hayworth
to grace my wall...

Marlene Dietrich
by George Hurrell, 1937

The exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery, London
features over 70 photographs from Greata Garbo and Clark Gable
to Audrey Hepburn, James Dean
and Marilyn Monroe.

Rita Hayworth for Gilda
by Robert Coburn, 1946

The exhibition closes on the 23rd October
and for any lover of Hollywood and photography this is
a 'must see' exhibition.

DOWNTON ABBEY ~ GRANDEUR AND ELEGANCE

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

I have to admit to being just a little obsessed with
the quite brilliant Downton Abbey...
winner of four awards at the 2011 Emmy Awards
and the UK's favourite period drama.

It transports you to a different world...
the grandeur and elegance,
 the exquisite gowns...
and the beautiful setting of
Highclere Castle in Berkshire.

Take a little look...

Simply sublime...

BY INVITATION: POST TWO

Monday, 3 October 2011

The theme for this month's invitation post comes from
Vicki Archer
@

and
Tish Jett
@
http://afemmeduncertainage.blogspot.com/

And their inspiration is from the French writer,
Gustave Flaubert
and his words...

"LE BON DIEU EST DANS LE DETAIL''
...whatever one does should be done thoroughly;
details are important...

For me...
 these words mean to
always do something to the best of my ability;
however small the task.
To do the very best I know how...the very
best I can.

It's an attitude, a way of being...
to give the best of yourself in any given situation;
whether good or bad, happy or sad.
And to do it with grace.

I like this quote by Dale Carnegie
and I try to follow the advice...
"Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly
are small jobs.
Every time you conquer one it makes you
that much stronger.
If you do the little jobs well,
the big ones will tend
to take care of themselves."

Somebody once told me that successful people
aren't born that way.
They become successful by establishing the habit of
doing things unsuccessful people don't like to do.
The successful people don't always like these things
themselves; they just get on and do them...
they work thoroughly
and
they don't forget the
detail...

"LE BON DIEU EST DANS LE DETAIL"

And they never give up...

ALL CHANGE FOR: NICOLE FARHI

The new Nicole Farhi
London Flagship Store

It's all change for French Fashion Designer
Nicole Farhi...after 17 years
in New Bond Street she has re-located
her flagship store to Conduit Street.

I loved her store in New Bond Street but this store
is fabulous; a true flagship store.

Her autumn/winter 2011-12 campaign is
very different to...speaking to Vogue UK Nicole Farhi said:

"I loved working on this season's ad campaign, in
particular on the moving image side.
We wanted a strong campaign that reflected the new direction
of the brand by using a photographer we hadn't
worked with before, and an urban outside location,
which we  haven't done for a while.
We made something unexpected, hopefully
people will be surprised."

Here are a few pieces from her new collection...

and my favourite...
