Parisian Chic

Wednesday, 20 April 2011

According to Ines de la Fressange, Parisian Chic is easy!
She shares her secrets of how Parisian women maintain effortless glamour and timeless allure.

"You don't need to be born in Paris to have Parisian style."
she says in her book,

PARISIAN CHIC

"It is an attitude, a state of mind.  Between rocker and ho-hum bourgeois,
a Parisian is always first, never second.
A Parisian steps lightly around the fashion traps of the day.
Her secret?
She breathes the air du temps and puts it to good use, her way,
and always with the same aim: fashion should be fun.
The Parisian follows a few golden rules, but she likes to transgress, too.
It's part of the style.
C'est facile!"

Her 17-year old daughter, Nine, has certainly inherited her Mother's
beauty and style...

Now, appearing in the campaign for Bottega Veneta's
new fragrance.

Photographer's Spot: Peter Lindbergh

Tuesday, 19 April 2011

I love black and white photography and the German, fashion photographer,
Peter Lindberg is one of the world's most pre-eminent.

He is famous for shooting huge black and white images of the
world's supermodels and is credited with helping create
the supermodel phenomenon in the 1990's.

A recent gift from my husband is Peter Lindbergh's book
entitiled
Ten Women by Peter Lindbergh
(1993)

It is a stunning, 'must have' book for anybody interested in fashion photography.

The portfolio of photographs showing these beautiful women:
Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista,
Kristen McMenamy, Kate Moss, Tatjana Patiz,
Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington and Amber Valetta
in various moods and poses is captivating...

I think what I like so much about the photographs...is the sensitivity
he brings to the portraits...exquisite.

Princess Diana

Monday, 18 April 2011

For young girls and women of the 80's (of which I was one)
Princess Diana was a style icon, we copied her dress, her shoes,
her handbags, we couldn't get enough of her, she was like no other member
of the Royal Family and we simply
adored her.

There has been much talk and comparison between her and Kate Middleton...
Kate is a beautiful young woman, with her own style and personality,
just as Diana all those years before.

Here are a few stunning covers and shots of the
irreplaceable Diana.

It's made me quite teary looking at them...

Iconic Wedding Dresses

With the excitement of the marriage of Prince William to Kate Middlelton very nearly here... take a look at some iconic wedding dresses from Cinderella to Sarah Jessica Parker...Elizabeth Taylor to Wallis Simpson.

For me, Wallis Simpson's wedding dress in 1937 is absolute elegance
and beautifully frames her slender figure...
the dress worn by the actress Gene Tierney in the film
Razor's Edge in 1947, designed by Oleg Cassini, a favourite designer
of Grace Kelly...is my favourite it is just exquisite...

Do you have a favourite?

From fairytales to Hollywood...
